Care & Maintenance LLW
Site Name: Wylfa

Wylfa is located on a 50 hectare site on the north coast of Anglesey between Amlwch and Holyhead, Wylfa was the final Magnox plant to be built with an original design capacity of 1140MW. This design was the precursor to the next generation Advanced Gas Cooled Reactor (AGR) fleet.
During their generating life, the two reactors produced 232 terawatt-hours of electricity, enough to meet the daily needs of 1 million UK households. When Wylfa finished generating on 30 December 2015 it also marked the end of Magnox reactor generation in the UK.
Since then, significant decommissioning progress has been made with almost 88,000 fuel elements safely removed during defueling.
Wylfa is also responsible for the Maentwrog hydro-electric power station in Gwynedd, North Wales.
